Overcoming Marketing Budgets in a Struggling Economy via New Media Technology

With office budgets impacted by a struggling economy, chiropractic office Family Care Wellness is overcoming budget constraints using new media technology.
“One way to save money is by blogging and online social networks that consist of either profiles or video uploads,†said Abrar Qureshi, marketing consultant for Family Care Wellness. “These are all part of what is known as new media technology.â€
Qureshi has utilized new media technology for Internet Marketing, website marketing and e-mail newsletters.
“Internet marketing is a broad term that other forms of marketing fall under such as website and e-mail marketing,†said Qureshi. “Website marketing on the other hand is about driving traffic to your website through the use of various forms of marketing communications.â€
Effectively designed websites are informative, brief and their look is clean.
“You drive more traffic to your website through public relations, blogging, e-mail newsletters, fliers, business cards & other marketing materials all integrated with your website address,†Qureshi added. “But in order to make it work, you have to tell people about the actual information on your website, and not just the Web address.â€
Blogging, social networks and public relations are cost effective because they are totally free. One of the most effective forms of marketing is word of mouth.
“The people who talk about your product and service are known as community influentials,†said Qureshi. “These people have the most influence on others. That is why we build patient referral relationships with other physicians.â€
As Qureshi utilized new media technology such as e-mail and blogging, he learned what works and does not work.
“E-mail newsletters need to inform and not be an ad,†said Qureshi. “Blogging is about keywords that people normally use to surf the web. Blogging only needs to be done once a week. Internet browsers are keen, and will not rank your website very high if you deliberately blog more than twice a week to force a high ranking.â€
A few years ago, Blockbuster Video started their online DVD mail rental service and proactively asked their customers to sign up for it. Blockbuster even had laptops right in their stores for people to sign up with.
“We actively approached patients in the waiting room, and ask them to sign up by filling out a brief form,†Qureshi said. “All you need is their first and last name, and e-mail. Depending on the industry, some laws such as HIPPA require that you have a single page for each individual patient. You do not want strangers to see their personal e-mails.â€
To date, Family Care Wellness has signed up about 332 individuals for their e-mail newsletters.
