Dream of receiving a musicians choice award

For some people their life’s dream is to climb a mountain like Mt. Everest. For others it is to fly an airplane all by themselves. For me it was to win a musician choice award. Unfortunately, that never happened.
Like so many other musicians before me, reality struck in. After playing in bands through high-school, even attending a music high-school and college, it was time to pay the bills. Even though I continued to play music at home, and even had my own studio with a mixer, synthesizers and music recording software, I had to go to work each day like everyone else, and that put a damper on my motivation to play music. Eventually, I sold the equipment and put music on the shelf, so to speak.
Becoming a professional musician is a tough line of work. You have to compete with hundreds, if not thousands, of other brilliant musicians in your local area, town, or country, and that competition can be really tough. Being able to sell yourself and your skills is crucial, so the shy guys like me seldom win. Networking is also a very important skill if you are to succeed. Knowing the right people, and mingling with them at the right time, can mean make or break for landing the gig of your dreams.
As for me, that dream of a musicians choice award is still not dead, but you can say that it is on life-support. The last band I played in was dissolved 4 years ago because we fought and bickered all the time. If you want to play in a band you have to realize that it takes a lot of peace keeping skills, which I do not have.
So I guess I will have to be content with my dream not manifesting it self, but that is ok, because I can always become a music teacher. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach!
