Free WordPress Themes – What To Look For

If you use WordPress as a blogging platform or as a CMS you will no doubt want to change the default Kubrick theme to something a lot more enticing and modern.

There is a large range of wordpress themes available for use in the wordpress community. A high proportion of these themes are available for free with some premium (paid) themes available as well.

Some of the popular styles of themes are two column themes, magazine themes, news themes and shop themes. These types of themes make it easier to build an authority blog or shopping portal that is stylish and visitor friendly.

One of the problems that people face though is whether they should choose a free theme or purchase a premium theme. The advantages of using a free theme are that you can try the template out on your site without having to invest any money. If you don’t like the style you can walk away only having lost your time but not your money. However, there are drawbacks with free themes. First of all, free themes can be an opportunity for people who distribute the themes to add nasty links in the theme which could damage your site. For instance, they may lead to inappropriate websites or have security problems. Another problem is that free themes are generally “free” because the cost of them is sponsored by advertising. This means that rather than having one acceptable link to the designer or developer at the footer there may be a number of links to websites. Sadly, some of these sites could even be in competition with the keyword you are trying to rank for!

If you are going to try a free wordpress theme make sure you try from a reputable source and be wary of unwanted and hidden links in the free wordpress themes.
