Do You Want To Quit Drinking?

For some people, alcohol is an old friend. Unfortunately, it can be a friend that is not good for you… one of those who listens to your problems, but then always gives you the worst advice. …Maybe I am stretching this analogy too far, but if you have concerns about whether your drinking has become a problem, maybe you should ask some of the people who care about you (and who don’t drink with you) to see whether they think it’s affecting you in a negative way.

Even if your drinking isn’t having an obvious negative impact on you, it’s possible that it’s harming your family, co-workers or other people you care about, so check around.

If you do decide that you want to quit drinking, it’s good to have a plan. You can read up and find out what to expect when it comes to alcohol detoxing and then decide if that’s something you think you can handle alone – maybe with the help of a good friend – or whether it makes more sense to check into an alcohol rehab center and have medical supervision and trained therapists help you through the process.

Getting into alcohol rehab to help you quit drinking is not something to be ashamed of. It doesn’t mean you’re weak. Sometimes making the decision to ask for help is the best way to show your strength.
